ART
On the Avenue

Nicole Bengiveno/The New York Times
Paint blotches and a posted manifesto partly cover street art on the Lower East Side.
Her work has lately been the subject of a mysterious defacer, but the street artist Swoon — among the youngest to have pieces displayed at PS 1, MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum — has not let that get in the way of her artistic ambition. (If someone covers over her intricate paper cut-out portraits, she simply makes new ones — a painstaking process that speaks to the constant breakdown/renewal cycle of city life.) Today she’ll make a rare personal appearance to discuss living and working as an artist in contemporary New York. Prepare to be charmed.
6:30 p.m., MoMA, 11 West 53rd Street, (212) 708-9400; $5-$10.
